History is a combination of reality and lies. The reality of History becomes a lie. The unreality of the fable becomes the truth.

Humorous verse for the over-educated

[If you understand this without research, you are educated.
If you get a chuckle out of it, you are over-educated.]

The Peking Man often enjoyed
a good "hung oven" duck
(long before our Sigmund Freud
made it a big yuk (yuck!)

to serve to his thin, famished, new
Homo erectus friends.
And that's another yuk. (Thank you
to Sigmund Freud again.)

Because the Church, long in the tooth,
had lost its push, or pull,
Rene Descartes searched for a Truth
incontrovertible.

(Ego.) "Ergo," declared that sage,
"I doubt all that I find,"
long before our modern age
said, "What a waste of mind!"

Every pound of getting what you want
brings with it
at least a pound of new anxiety over possible loss.

The Failure through Excellence Tour - Feb 2010

"I love my two moms!"

A Short poem from 1992

This closedry fragment man-
made of plundered tree
meant
(n)earness to me
when your ears
were distant paper

Status Report

Thanks Dan for reminding me that some folks really do go here to find out the latest. I promise to be more faithful.

Here's the latest, in no particular order:

Blake was on leave for two weeks. What a great thing! Now he's back in Iraq to finish out his tour of duty there. He's a good man and a good soldier. We, his parents, are proud of him. He gives every American good reason to be proud - except those Americans who think the U.S., and/or the U.S. military, are the bad guys all the time.

We had our other son here too. Trent visited from Seattle. In almost every way - vocationally, politically, etc. - Trent is the absolute opposite of Blake. We are hugely proud of him also. What a musician! What a human! Check him out:

Thanks, Kleins and Williams for your great hosting of me during my trip to Cal. I love Cal, and you are a huge part of the reason why.

Kathy gets an all expenses paid trip to Vegas?!?!?!?! What the hell?!?!?!?

How fortunate are we? Our son gets married, and we end up totally in love with not only his wife, but his wife's family! Rick and Kristen are gifts from heaven.

Yes, we now are involved in ballroom dancing and (gulp) Karaoke. The mighty have fallen.

Still earning some money in an economy that keeps us from taking such things for granted: the nurse and the teacher.
